Salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Peace, Blessings, and the Mercy of Allah be upon you all.

Softening of the Heart

The human being is never afflicted with a punishment more severe than the hardness of heart and being away from Allah.

  • The Fire was created to melt the hard heart.
  • The most distant hearts from Allah are the hard ones.
  • The heart hardens when there is excess in eating, sleeping, speaking and socializing.
  • When the body becomes sick, eating and drinking is of no benefit for it and likewise when the heart becomes sick because of it being plagued by desires, then it would not benefit from any exhortation or preaching.

Purifying the Hard Heart

Anyone who realizes this and wants to purify his heart must give preference to Allah above his desires.

The Prophet Muhammad said “”There is in the body a clump of flesh – if it becomes good, the whole body becomes good and if it becomes bad, the whole body becomes bad. And indeed it is the heart.”

Any heart is secluded from Allah based on its attachment to its desires or other things, be it wealth, the Duniya (World), women, children etc. The most loved by Allah are those hearts that are the softest, strongest and those that are most purified. Everyone keeps his heart busy with the world. However, if  it is  kept busy with Allah and the things he loves, it would achieve wisdom and great benefits. Whenever the heart is filled with remembrance of Allah and made to drink of reflections on Allah and protected from indulging in evil, wonderful results will accrue from this. The heart is ruined when it is heedless and when it is not worried about being punished, whilst its prosperity comes about when one is afraid of Allah’s punishment and when he remembers Allah much.

Whenever the heart renounces the affairs of this world it is only then that it can become firmly established in the affairs of the hereafter. However, if it becomes pleased with the affairs of this world then those of the hereafter will elude it.

Whoever lets his heart reside with Allah, he will make it tranquil and would put it to rest. The one who lets it roam wildly, every other thing confuses it and increases its anxiety. Love for Allah can never enter into the heart that is full of love for this world. The heart becomes naked just as the body becomes naked but it can be beautified with “Taqwa” for Him, fear of Him and consciousness of Him.

The heart is our most precious treasure because it is based on purity that will benefit us in the hereafter as Allah the Almighty said” …

“A day in which neither wealth nor children shall be of any benefit, except one who comes to God with a sound heart”

(Sūrat’l-Shu’arā’: 88-89).
