Chapter 2 - Afdall Al-Istighfar (The best way of asking for forgiveness from Allah)
The statement of Allah: '...Ask forgiveness from your Lord. Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send rain to you in abundance and give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers' V 71:10-12
And also the statement of Allah: 'And those who, when they have commited Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse) or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; - and none can forgive sins but Allah - and do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know." V 3:135
Hadith 6306
Narrated Shaddad bin Aus: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is:
’Allahuma Anta Rabbi la ilaha illa Anta khalaqtani wa ana ‘abduka, wa ana ’ala ‘ahdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu. A’udhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu, abu’u laka bini’matika ‘alaiya, wa abu’u bidhanbi faghfirli innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Anta.’ **
The Prophet (peace be upon him) added, 'If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.'
** (English Interpretation)
‘O Allah, You are my Lord!’ None as the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my convenant and my promise (to You) as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You.’
